Customer's Project Section

Welcome to the project section of our site where we have (as an editorial) highlighted some of our users endeavors, it is not an endorsement, blueprint or recommendation of the procedures detailed, it is more a record of personal methods and personal achievements, Do you have an energy saving, useful or fun project you would like to share?, send us your photo's and a detailed description of products used to the webmaster at:

"TheToolBoxShop.com Challenge"   We have a challenge for all you inventers and entrepreneurs out there, as we progress and move towards electric vehicles becoming the next generation of road transport we have overlooked one important factor, with vehicles doing 30 to 40mph on our city and village roads we have all been looking forward to it getting quiet and peaceful, but what about the children and pedestrians?, at least with the petrol or diesel engines the children had a chance of hearing the oncoming traffic, when we remember the campaigns: "stop", "look" and "listen", what good is listen with an electric system that generates very little noise?, as we replace the "gas guzzlers" over the next 20 years we should also address the impact EV's will have to road safety,

Major innovation and changes will always have a "knock on" effect.

"The Challenge" Get your inventing heads on people we need a solution for the future thats cost effective and universally acceptable, whether it is fitting children with proximity sensors and horns or making stereo boom boxes compulsory in all vehicles (please, NO), the solution could be a more lucrative invention than the EV system itself, send us your solutions funny or otherwise and if it is genuinely innovating we will assist you with intellectually protecting your solution, taking it to market and getting professional exposure.

"TheToolBoxShop Team Solution"  Not "the" solution it is actually peppered with more holes than a tea strainer but it might just to give you an idea or starting point, The vehicles could be fitted with a transmitter (live only when the vehicle is in motion) that when a receiver is within 20 metres it triggers an LED display worn as a wristband by children or adults as a warning, now the principle is sound but the application and effectiveness is fundamentally floored, it should however give you a starting point on forums and discussions to go forward with, Just remember what should fuel the innovation is the historical service to transportation (remember CATS EYES) and the road safety factor your invention would help to improve,

John and Lyn's Cool Runnings Trike tours in Fuerteventura

The little gem of an island that is Fuerteventura

Of alThe roads in Fuerteventura are ideal for cars and bikesl the holiday destinations in the Canary islands one of the most family friendly resorts is the town of Costa Caleta (formally known as El Castillo Caleta De Fuste) on the island of Fuerteventura, nestled around the main horseshoe shaped bay and marina are the resorts main complexes of Barcelo club el castillo and the Elba San Jorge and antigua aparthotel suites, It is in these suites where a gem of the island can be found, John and Lyn's Cool runnings trike tours are easily the highlight of many a families holiday.

John and Lyn "retired" to the island many years ago after deciding that Fuerteventura was the place fWhite lightning one of the Cool Running trikesor them but after 11 months of taking it easy they realised they still had a passion for work, looking at the options available and the fact that John was a qualified "PetrolHead" and businessman the chance to offer visitors to the island a tour on trikes seemed to fit the bill nicely,

The trikes are a cross between a motorbike and a car, all that is required from visitors to the island is a full driving licence (Car licence) and no need for a separate motorcycle licence, which makes the experience of touring the island into a reality for most families. coupled with the Fuerteventura governments massive road building venture Just one of the many trikes available at Cool Runningover the last six years (which means there is safe and often quiet access to most areas of the island) you have a recipe for a fabulous "Cool runnings tour" experience.

The Cool Running trike tours are available with a price bracket to suit most budgets and tours range from 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours duration, you can choose from chauffeur driven or self-drive, booking can be made through holiday cruise and tour operators also direct on the telephone number: (00 34) 649 938 581, visit the Cool Runnings website: www.fuertetrikes.com for more information and testimonials.

If you are considering Fuerteventura as a holiday destination or have already booked but have not hired a car, the Cool Runnings tour is the only real option for discovering this great little island and blowing out the cobwebs, a resounding TheToolBoxShop.com Team recommended. posted 7th September 2009

Steve's solar powered house building project

Spanish home  Steve's House build in Spain

When Steve contemplated a new house build in Spain the concept of building a house predominantly powered by solar energy made perfect sense, his house is now powered by a 12v system.

The electrical system was designed by a UK company  "I know the system was for installation in Spain, and that solar energy is big over here due to the amount of sunshine hours, but it seemed more feasible to me to deal with English speaking companies rather than Spanish ones",

The power is collected through two 210 Watt Sanyo HIT PV panels running at 24v (this House electrical systemmeans the feed cable to the powerhouse at the rear of the house on the picture can be a smaller diameter than if the panels were running at 12v). They deliver through the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller to the batteries, of which we have four 270 AH Elecsol batteries. The MPPT is fitted with a Studer Battery Monitor, which means we have a digital readout giving us battery voltage, Amperage input (from the panels) Amps used, Amps remaining (at a given consumption), battery temperature plus a percentage readout for quick reference.
The batteries power are distributed through several outputs.

Alan Clark and his Storm project

Storm trooper with VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) as standard  Alan's Storm dream becomes a reality

It's not very often we go WOW over a project but when details of Alan Clark's full size Storm project landed on our desk it had the WOW factor written all over it, Alan's ultimate aim is to see Storm or an army of Storm's battling The Doctor as the latest 21st century foe, we think you will agree with us that he deserves that accolade, (please click on the images to enlarge).

Look out Doctor a Storm is coming... Storm was hand built byAlan Clark with his creation Storm Alan Clark in association with Mechmaster a cgi artist and is inspired by a 1980's concept sketch, "Storm is a whole new breed of Dalek" says Alan "just waiting to be unleashed onto your TV screens in what just might be the most thrilling Dr Who episode ever", TheToolBoxShop Team agree and we are fully backing Alan in his bid to bring Storm's support to the attention of the Broadcaster and hopefully we will be seeing it in our living rooms in the following years, we hope you will jump on board by posting your comments on forums and blogs which will secure your part in Alan's crusade, we would like to plant a seed for you to discuss, imagine David Tennant in a British made blockbuster remake of "Doctor Who and the Daleks" or better still "Dalek invasion" with the Storm version of the Dalek as his adversary now that would be a film worth seeing, as for the broadcaster one word "Kerching" and you are welcome!

Storm on exibition Storm is a technically plausable 21st century mutant vehicle...

Alan from West Yorkshire has appeared at exibitions up and down the UK, featured in the local papers and on Calender the ITV regional news programme, you can find more information and video's by searching for "Dalek Storm" on facebook , youtube and Google search, Posted 8th May 2009

Dr Phil Taylor and his Golf Buggy project

Melex 212 Golf buggy  Phil's childhood memories made real

Phil had fond memories of the Melex 212 golf buggy from when he was a child, and when given the oppertunity to aquire and rebuild one many years on, he jumped at the chance to roll up his sleeves and renew an old friendship, his project is a good example of the phrase "Memories are great, but better if you can touch them".

Phil Taylors Melex 212 golf cart This is a Melex 212 golf cart from 1979,  it was made in Poland and then assembled in a small factory in the UK just around the corner from where I grew up, I used to see these as a kid and think how cool they were,
Fast forward to 2007, and I was living on the edge of a golf course that got closed down, and in the liquidation sales I see two of these buggies, A quick inspection showed they were from the same factory, made about the same time I saw them as a kid,
Anyway lots of lost weekends later, here is the finished, and fully road legal article, I used a number of bits from voltaplus.co.uk and a lot of the connectors and cabling came from you, see more details of Phil's project at: thebuggyproject.blogspot.com

Thanks for building your site TheToolBoxShop.com and VoltaPlus and I hope it gets better and better in the future, Posted 14th December 2009

Jim's Nova kit car windscreen wiper replacement project

Jims NovaJims Nova Windscreen Wiper

Jim was looking for a solution with his Nova VW kit car regarding the windscreen wiper, he found the solution at The ToolBox Shop.com

"I ended up using TheToolBoxShop.com, as their product range had been referred to many a Wiper motortime on forums and NOVA Int., their office was very helpful and answered technical queries and forwarded on scanned technical drawings to allow me to check dimensions. I ended up ordering two possible permutations, they charged no P&P on top of the web prices which helped."

  • Products Used:
  • 0-867-01 12v unswitched Motor
  • 0-893-70 700mm pantograph arm
  • 0-895-60 600mm wiper blade

The system, set at 80 degrees gives a full sweep right to the edges and top of screen (important for my heigScreen profileht!). More importantly I used it today in the rain and it does the job ! I have not yet set up the second speed or auto park as I have a simple 1 position dash switch only. This will get changed for a 2 speed version in time (have run multicore cable to wiper in preparation)
The quality of the parts seems good, and all were well packaged, and delivered very promptly.
If thinking about this motor you do need to be aware it needs spacing away from the inside of the canopy by aprox 22mm ( I used two metal tubes).

Arm mountingThe wiper shafts are equal sizes, so I did need to enlarge one of my original holes. The mounting plate supplied for outside the car is a good size so would cover any minor damage in this area. Posted 30th April 2008

Mike Evans 1992 Honda Civic MX electrical conversion in New Zealand
Honda Civic conversion
I got the idea into my head and then bought my donor car. The donor car isn't the biggest expense in the project, but the EG Honda Civic is the perfect platform for conversion to an electric car, IMHO. Haven't stopped reading about it. Lots of time invested. Most of the conversion time is consumed with waiting for people to respond and waiting for the parts to land.

Charger: HWC4 Series 96V/20A Charger
220 VAC, onboard. Compact size will fit neatly into hatch area with Packtrakr battery monitoring system board.

Motor: Advanced DC #203-06-4001 Series Wound DC, 8"
Batteries: 16 Trojan T-105, 6.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded
Top Speed: 65 MPH (104 KPH)
Range: 40 miles

Mike is a "time served" technician and is now a materials and logistics manager in New Zealand who could not put down his toolbox (familiar story?), we salute his "green" credentials and hisBrake vacuum kit motivation, you can keep up with his progress at:: www.evalbum.com/1991

Adam Elsdon and his 1953 Mk1 FV1611b Humber armoured truck
1953 Mk FV1611b Humber 1 Ton armoured truck-Humber pig
The 1953 MK1 FV1611b Humber 1 Ton Armoured Truck, better known as a Humber Pig (due to its appearance!) it started life as a 1 Ton Pick up truck and then the Army rebodied it with the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) body in 1959, it was designed to carry 8 troops a vehicle commander and the driver. Powered by a 6 cylinder Rolls Royce 4.2L petrol engine, it weighs 4.75 Tons or 6 Tons fully loaded.
The trailer is a Brockhouse 1 Ton of a similar vintage, designed to carry a 1 Ton payload in offroad conditions.
Tends to draw crowds when i take it anywhere!

The vehicles radio suppressed and waterproof ignition system was rewired with a roll of Durite copper Nicknamed The Humber Pig due to its appearanceignition cable that I purchased from you, and it now runs a treat! it has also rewired a Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier and a Bedford RL 3 Ton truck!, and.... I still have plenty left!
